The Doug Bowen Prize is an annual contemporary art award established in 2014. The prize is awarded to a student completing their study on the Fine Art pathway of the Foundation Diploma at Leeds College of Art.
Each year a different independent jury judges the prize. In 2014 the panel comprised of: Bruce Asbestos (Artist and Director, Trade Gallery); Dr James Boaden (Lecturer in History of Art, University of York); Linzi Stauvers (Curator, Pavilion).
The aim of the prize is to support ambitious students as they transition from Further Education to Higher Education, by offering them support, guidance and opportunities external to their education institution and peer group. The 2014 winner, Evelina Tracuma will present new work at Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, which concludes with an exhibition in the gallery space.
