What would happen if materials became jealous, lied about themselves and stole each other’s ideas?
In ‘You can be me and I’ll be you’ surfaces are active, matter is agent and objects are animated. Working within an expanded ecology of matter, the exhibition asks what would it look like if MDF was aspirational, parquet bastardized or rubbish pedestalled.
‘You can be me and I’ll be you’ considers surface effects in relation to contemporary problems of authenticity, empathy, and the synesthetic relationship between haptic and cognitive perception.
Taking translations of known things, a series of new works play upon our reference systems of physical stuff and address the paradoxical materiality of surface and depth, speed and substance, effect and content.
