People bring so many interests, associations and preconceptions to viewing art. Processes such as woodworking, photography and botany have long histories that come with ideas of the ‘right’ way of doing things, making it challenging to push a process away from these working traditions to create something new, and in-turn skew a viewer’s assumptions and memories of a thing. Round The Houses is a one-night solo exhibition by Ian Jackson that aims to encourage a visual rethinking of objects and architectural detailing that commonly make up our surroundings. Jigsaws depict tiled floors, architectural features are translated into ornamental brass objects and pressed trees dried from leaf to root all come together within the gallery space to explore the boundaries between object, image, function and ornament. Round the Houses is the second in a series of off-site exhibitions by emerging artists co-ordinated by STCFTHOTS with support from Bloc Projects.
